On 10 June, a special press conference dedicated to European apples was held in Bogotá, bringing together journalists, business representatives and members of the Polish delegation attending the Alimentec trade fair.
The event took place at the Ilatinas restaurant, and the participants were honoured by the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Colombia, Ms Barbara Sośnicka. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the potential for trade cooperation and the prospects for expanding exports of European fruit to the Colombian market.
The guests were welcomed by Sławomir Kędzierski, Vice-President of the Association of Polish Fruit and Vegetable Distributors “Unia Owocowa”, who, during his speech, gave the participants an insight into apple production in Poland and Europe, highlighting the high quality, wide range of varieties and standards in European fruit-growing.
Ambassador Barbara Sośnicka spoke about the presence of European and Polish fruit on the Colombian market, emphasising the importance of developing economic relations between Poland and Colombia. Ms Dorota Siry, Business Development Manager at PAIH’s International Trade Office in Bogotá, then outlined the key aspects of trade cooperation between the two countries.
An integral part of the event was the culinary segment, during which participants had the opportunity to discover just how versatile European apples are. The specially prepared dishes demonstrated that apples pair perfectly with both the traditional flavours of Colombian cuisine and modern culinary interpretations.
The highlight of the evening was a cookery demonstration led by Chef Maleja Bestial. The event participants worked together to prepare a dessert made with European apples, and then had the opportunity to sample the results of this unique culinary demonstration.
All guests were given information leaflets about the programme and European apples. The event attracted a great deal of interest from participants, who appreciated both the substantive content of the event and the exceptional culinary experience.
The event in Bogotá was the next step in raising the profile of European apples and strengthening relations with business partners and the media in the Colombian market.
